Nice write up. Curious to see how his game develops over the course of a season. Against Memphis he started slow and looked pedestrian in the first half then got hot in the second half from deep and gave Bama some room.
Good point.. over-sized dimensions enable him to “see over the defense” that, when combined with change of pace could open up the floor for him to facilitate more. How would you rate his floor vision?
Above average for his position. I don't think it's great where he's actively moving defenders or consistently passing guys open, but I think he does a good job of recognizing defensive rotations and how to counter them by kicking to the open guy.
Will his lack of explosiveness hinder his ability to fully utilize his passing acumen? Possibly, right? If he’s unable to accelerate past defenders to generate advantage w/ the ball in his hands, then he doesn’t force the defense to adjust and, subsequently, open up passing lanes. His plus shooting should create advantage.. just wonder how / where his plus passing becomes a difference maker.
To some extent, yes. Being 6'9" helps so I don't think it'll be too big of an issue. He needs to learn how to use change of pace to create space better. Once he does that and gets stronger, I don't think there'll be too many concerns over it. That may take a few years, though, and it'll never be quite as easy for him as it is for the uber explosive guys.
I agree with this point it often seems players with size and shooting ability often find ways to add more to their game whether that is finishing around the rim or passing the rock.
