G-League Elite Camp Day One Reactions
Tyler Rucker, Tyler Metcalf, and Maxwell Baumbach share their biggest takeaways from the first day of the G-League Elite Camp NBA Combine for the 2026 NBA Draft
The NBA Combine cycle is underway for the 2026 NBA Draft, and things got started with a full day at the G-League Elite Camp. The crew shares their biggest takeaways, biggest surprises, who they need to see more from, and much more.
Who had the best day?
Metcalf: Aaron Nkrumah rocks. Admittedly, I hadn’t really dove into his game before today, but I may have a new obsession. He was yet again super disruptive on defense, but his offense was phenomenal. He dropped 20+ with some really versatile off-ball scoring. His shot looks fluid and effortless. He was also deadly attacking closeouts with a quick first step and a fearless approach to attacking the rim. He has a malleable playstyle that would fit just about anywhere as a 3-and-D wing.
Maxwell: I was really impressed with Rafael Castro today. The George Washington big man did what he always does. He jumped out of the gym, made some smart passes, and got after it on the boards. But what really impressed me was his ball screen defense. I thought he was pretty erratic at times on that front this past season, but today, he was awesome. He was super communicative, used his length well, and forced guards to make poor passes around his wiry frame. That polish, paired with his chaotic productivity, makes him extremely intriguing to me as a second-round pick.
