In-Person Scouting Notes: Michigan vs. Minnesota
Danny Wolf was the main attraction and the clearest 2025 NBA Draft prospect, but Dawson Garcia and Vlad Goldin left strong impressions as Minnesota secured a tough win over Michigan.
Well, that was fun. And chaotic. In case you missed it, the Minnesota Golden Gophers continued their streak of having the most bizarre home games by knocking off the Michigan Wolverines with a half-court buzzer-beater in overtime. The main draw from a scouting perspective was Danny Wolf, who continues to climb up draft boards, but Dawson Garcia and Vlad Goldin also left strong impressions. Here are the biggest takeaways from my in-person scout of Minnesota vs. Michigan.
Danny Wolf – C Michigan
Danny Wolf continues to skyrocket up 2025 NBA Draft boards, and for good reason. The 7’0” 250-pound junior big man continues to trend more towards being an offensive hub and initiator and less of a traditional big man.
As far as warmups go, there wasn’t anything groundbreaking with Wolf’s. He started out with some typical form shooting before expanding his range. What was different, especially from most big men, was the shooting variety and flexibility work that Wolf was doing. Wolf wasn’t just simply practicing threes—he was practicing dynamic shot attempts off the catch, off screens, and off the bounce. He was constantly simulating live rep attempts rather than just standstill stuff, like most college centers do. Wolf’s shot has been a big discussion point, and after seeing it in person I lean more towards buying it than not. He shoots a really soft ball and the mechanics are consistent. He comes across his face on his release, and there’ll be some minor tweaks that need to be made, but it feels very workable.
