The World Tour: ANGT Podgorica
A look at the top prospects in attendance at the latest Adidas Next Generation Tournament qualifiers.
If you’ve ever read a scouting report on an international player, there are two four-letter acronyms that you are probably already familiar with. The first one is FIBA, the entity that organizes multiple continental and world youth tournaments. The other one is ANGT, which stands for Adidas Next Generation Tournament, which, simply put, could be considered as the U18 equivalent to Euroleague.
The first of four ANGT qualifiers took place this weekend at Podgorica, Montenegro, with Real Madrid taking the title home to the surprise of absolutely nobody. Madrid also earned an automatic berth for the ANGT Finals which will be held in Berlin, Germany, in parallel with the Euroleague Final Four.
In our third World Tour, I’ll be sharing my notes on a number of prospects who stood out at Podgorica, as well as their projections to the NBA, professional, and college levels.
Sidi Gueye
Vitals: Real Madrid | 6’9” Forward/Center | Nationality: Senegal | 16.3 Years Old
Averages: 8.0 pts, 6.5 reb, 2.0 ast, 0.8 blk, 2.0 tov in 19 minutes per game
Background: Consensus top-five prospect in the European 2007 generation and a top-two prospect in my personal rankings. Has showed out for Madrid in multiple U14/U16 events over the past two seasons.
Notes:
Elite physical tools, measured at 6’9”. Wingspan should be easily above the 7-foot mark. Long legs and arms. Really agile. Quick leaper. Runs the floor with really good speed. Impressive body control for his size.
Elite lob target with his combination of size, length, and agility. Has great hands to catch passes and offensive rebounds.
Has shown the ability to create his own shot in the paint with a good level of touch, fluidity, and footwork to find the open space. Comfortable and poised in a crowd, utilizes fakes to get defenders off balance.
Natural rim protector with his length and his ability to get off the ground quickly. Challenges shots at the rim consistently. Can act as a primary rim protector, as well as rotating and blocking shots from the weak side.
Can contain opponents in the perimeter, gets low, in a stance. Quick to turn his hips, a threat to block shots in drive coverage with his ability to stay in front of opponents.
Fluid ball-handler for his size, can put it on the floor to attack closeouts and to occasionally create his own straight-line drives against slower centers on the perimeter.
Shows above average vision for his size and role. Can find open teammates in a different number of situations — i.e. posting-up, driving, passing off the short roll.
Left-handed shooter who has shown enough touch to hit open jumpers from the midrange.
Overall: Despite playing out of position at the four, Gueye looked like one of the top international names ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft, making an impact on both ends of the floor with his finishing, his versatile defense, and his perimeter flashes. It will be interesting to see what he can do as a focal point of the offense for next year’s Real Madrid U18 team as some of the big names of the 2006 generation “graduate” from the age group.
Hugo Gonzalez
