VJ Edgecombe Dazzled for the Bahamas in Olympic Qualifying
VJ Edgecombe is consistently at the top of 2025 NBA Draft boards, and the Baylor freshman showed fans exactly why during the Bahamas's run in the 2024 Summer Olympic qualifying games.
When it comes to scouting prospects, this time of the year tends to be pretty dead. Younger players who are a few years out will have FIBA tournaments, but the most we tend to get are clips and rumblings from college practices—not the most thrilling or informative samples. This year is a little different, though, as it’s an Olympics year. Most prospects don’t even sniff their national team this early in their basketball career, but VJ Edgecombe continues to look like he isn’t like most prospects. Not only did Edgecombe make the roster for the Bahamas for their final qualifying games, but he played a pivotal role and was one of their primary options for a Bahamas team fighting to make the 2024 Summer Olympics.
The Bahamas aren’t a historical basketball powerhouse, which certainly made Edgecombe’s path to minutes more feasible, but they also have some legitimate NBA starters in Deandre Ayton, Buddy Hield, and Eric Gordon. Despite being just 18 years old amongst proven NBA veterans, Edgecombe was frequently the best player on the court for the Bahamas in their four qualifying games. The Bahamas just missed out on making the Olympics as they fell to Spain in their final game by eight points, but Edgecombe consistently showed why he is one of the most highly touted prospects in the 2025 NBA Draft.
