Background
Wesley Cardet Jr. was a highly touted recruit coming out of West Oaks Academy in Florida and received a four-star designation from 247Sports. He finished his senior year slotted 84th in the high school class of 2021 in the RSCI composite ranking. Cardet bypassed offers from the likes of USC, Miami, Illinois, and Florida to attend Samford, where his uncle Gerald Gillion was on the staff. However, Gillion would leave for the Chicago State Head Coach job before Cardet’s freshman season began. Cardet’s first college season was rocky. He scored 8.1 PPG on 40.4/28.3/73.8 splits and averaged 2.2 TOV to 0.9 APG. After the end of the season, he transferred to Chicago State to reunite with Gerald Gillion.
