The lead guard class has been spectacular this cycle, highlighted by the likes of Darryn Peterson, Mikel Brown Jr., Kingston Flemings, Darius Acuff, Christian Anderson Jr., and Bennett Stirtz. But what about North Carolina State’s fiery floor general, Quadir Copeland, who arguably offers a different profile at 6’6” and 220 pounds?

The Philadelphia native was rated as a three-star recruit after competing on the AAU circuit with the New Jersey Scholars and Team Melo (MD), and spending his final scholastic year at IMG Academy (FL) on the post-graduate squad. Copeland committed to Syracuse, where he spent two seasons flashing his ability to the tune of 6.7 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 1.9 APG, and 1.1 SPG across 17.3 MPG (52 games, with one start).

Copeland’s decision to transfer to McNeese State under Head Coach Will Wade turned out to be a fruitful one that sparked his NBA draft stock. In his lone year at McNeese State, Copeland produced 9.2 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 4.5 APG, and 1.4 SPG on 45.8/15.4/68.1 shooting splits (21.9 MPG, 35 games played with 24 starts). It culminated with McNeese (12th seed) winning their first-ever NCAA tournament game in an upset victory over the fifth-seeded Clemson Tigers before falling to Purdue in the second round.

Copeland elected to follow Will Wade to NC State for a return to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), and the results have been outstanding. The senior guard is setting career-bests across the board with averages of 13.7 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 6.8 APG, and 1.8 SPG on 50.6/ 41.5/ 77.6 shooting splits (27.7 MPG, started all 28 games so far). Copeland has solidified himself as one of the top lead guards in the ACC and country, but will he hear his name called on draft night?
