Welcome back!
It’s only been a bit of time, although the summer blissfully feels like it could and should go on forever. The dust has settled on NBA Summer League, and for the first time in months, the calendar enters a calmer period when it comes to scouting basketball.
Of course, ball don’t stop, as the saying goes. The WNBA is in full swing and in the midst of a joyous season to watch. I’ve already watched at least two games of each team, thanks in part to the women’s sports bar that opened in my neighborhood. There’s also the FIBA summer competitions, AAU basketball, and early reports out of NCAA training camps. Still, compared to the white-hot intensity of in-season scouting, the summer is much more relaxed.
That means it’s the best time to be cramming for next season! Realistically, I’m more available to watch film than I am during the season. Still, I also have the natural allure of soaking up as much sun as possible before Seattle inevitably turns cold again. I’ve done my best vampire impression while staying indoors to watch a bunch of tape, however.
So what have I been seeing?
